President Chandrikapersad Santokhi received a courtesy call from Helena Konig, Deputy Secretary-General of the European External Action Service (EEAS) for Economic and Global Affairs. The United States (US) and the United Kingdom (UK) both sent representatives. This trip had two goals: strengthening the groups’ partnerships and promoting democracy on a political level.
The concerns between the European Union (EU) and Latin America and the Caribbean as well as those in the area were discussed during the visit. For the EU, Latin America, and the Caribbean, 2023 is a crucial year. There will be a summit later this year, and the president of Suriname will be among the political leaders in attendance. Also discussed were the government’s objectives for the nation’s development and how the EU might help.
People need to be adequately prepared for climate change and its repercussions because there are global issues that different countries must deal with. There will then be gatherings and talks with organizations to encourage collaboration.
