President Chan Santokhi was given a courtesy call by Charles Amo-Yartey, the IMF’s resident representative in Suriname. Stanley Raghoebarsing, secretary of finance and planning, welcomed the representative to the president’s office.
Ideas were discussed on numerous subjects during a brief chat with Santokhi. The course of the IMF program in Suriname, the collaboration between the IMF and the Surinamese government, as well as the issues at hand, were among the topics covered by the authorities.
Discussion also included the imminent IMF visit to Suriname. Discussions about the Social Program, technical support, capacity building, subsidy reduction, and the Staff Level Meeting also took place.
Taking into account the steps taken to safeguard society from the effects of subsidy phase-out, President Santokhi highlights the need to further deepen cooperation with the IMF through effective communication and consultation.
