The Suriname Tourism Authority Act and the Tourism Framework Act were approved by the National Assembly (DNA) with 33 votes each. Miquella Soemar-Huur (Abop/Wanica), a legislator, expressed her happiness that we would finally approve these measures. For the college, but more so for the government, it is a significant achievement.
For almost 20 years, this topic has been on the agenda of many governments. Huur claimed that the Long-Term Tourism Plan is being created with the passage of these regulations. Specific tourism zones, economic areas where direct and indirect tourism-related activities take place, will be established and there will also be financial decentralization where a tourism development fee of 2% will be levied for the benefit of the district fund.
