182 military members received awards recently from the Ministry of Defense. Minister Krishna Mathoera claims that more than 2,000 soldiers still need to receive decorations. Unfortunately, lack of funding prevents this from being achievable. The backlog dates back to 2014. Every year, “we try to catch up.”
Mathoera stated that the ministry is committed to provide the troops with what they are entitled to. According to Mathoera, it would cost a lot of money to catch up with the backlog all at once.
