A new board has taken over for the Surinamese Banking Association (SBV). René van Rooy, director of De Surinaamsche Bank (DSB), was selected as the association’s chairman following a vote at the general membership meeting. Terrence Gonesh, vice-chairman of Surichange Bank, Eblein Frangie, secretary of Finabank, and Maureen Badhoeri, treasurer of Trusbank Amanah round out the board. Every year, this association organizes board elections.
It is notable that Hakrinbank director Rafiek Sheoradjpanday is no longer a board member. He was just one vote away from being elected again. Sheoradjpanday served as the de facto representation following the resignation of the former chairman, Steven Coutinho. He had conversations with the president up until the beginning of this month on behalf of the association in preparation for the national discourse.
Sheoradjpanday has been criticized for claims of workplace harassment for a while. The departure of female employees from this bank then brought him back into the spotlight recently. Within the SBV, which at the moment has 11 member banks, the Hakrinbank continues to be a represented member.
