On January 9, 2023, President Chandrikapersad Santokhi and Indian Prime Minister Modi had bilateral discussions. The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas conference, according to the President, has created a wonderful opportunity to consider possibilities for mutually beneficial outcomes for both countries. People from India can already enter Suriname without a visa thanks to the country. India, on the other hand, must also make things simpler for us in order to strengthen our relationship and, more importantly, to advance travel and tourism. In the talk, the president mentioned that Suriname provides India with a number of investment prospects in industries such as agriculture, rice farming, livestock, education, oil and gas, forestry, health care, technology, etc.

This year, as part of the celebration of 150 years of Hindustani immigration, particular focus will be placed on the cultural linkages that have developed and been reflected between Suriname and India since immigration. It will also demonstrate how the two countries have cooperated to improve mutual respect and understanding.

The president remarked that despite the distance between us, we are one and not separate from one another. As a result, together, we will take advantage of the opportunities that India and Suriname must explore over the next 25 years.
