The effects of the war in Southern Europe (Russian invasion of Ukraine) are being felt all over the world. President Chandrikapersad Santokhi noted that this situation also offers opportunities. He said further that war offers opportunities in the field of oil and gas, but also in the agricultural sector. These matters will also be discussed in the bilateral meeting he will have with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.

The Surinamese head of state indicated that the heads of government will not only consult on matters affecting the two countries and their societies. President Santokhi said that leaders also talk about things that are happening internationally. It is important to discuss what their common position could be in multilateral institutions.

In the capacity of Caricom chairman, the Surinamese president, Prime Minister Mark Rutte, will explain that investing in Suriname will bring many benefits. President Santokhi said that Investing in Suriname also means investing in the Caricom. Investors can use the CARICOM as a regional organization.

He further noted that there are parts of the kingdom in the Caribbean region, for example Bonaire, Curaçao, Aruba and Sint Maarten. “They will also become associate members of the Caricom.” The Surinamese head of state said that there are enough topics that can be made known from a Caricom perspective.
