Shri Sanatan Dharma Paramaribo-Noord, Welfare by Collectivity Foundation, and Lions’ Club Kwatta prepared a wonderful day for senior persons to honor 150 years of Hindu immigration on May 21, 2023, which is Senior Day. The honorable guests of honor at this event at Roeli’s Event Center were President Chandrikapersad Santokhi and his wife Mellisa Santokhi-Seenacherry.

A number of senior individuals got to take in diverse performances. “We wish to pay tribute to our ancestors, therefore we organized this day and invited you. In his speech, the head of state emphasized how crucial it is to never forget the contribution they contributed to the advancement of our nation. Hindu predecessors made a significant contribution, according to President Santokhi. He continued by saying that both groups before and after them had put in a lot of effort.

The head of state said it is important to celebrate how all communities’ languages and cultures have survived despite discrimination. He also made mention of the 160th anniversary of Keti Koti (the abolition of slavery) and the 170th anniversary of Chinese immigration.

We are thankful to our forefathers for everything they have done for us and our offspring because of this. We shall treasure this tradition and work to provide a bright future for our offspring, the head of state declared.
