President Chan Santokhi will formally open the Backtrack route between Nickerie and Springlands (Guyana) later in the day. This removes this route, which has been used for years, from illegality. The boat owners had also asked for order. They had submitted a petition about this.

The news press learns that the district commissioner of Nickerie, Senrita Gobardhan, signed an agreement yesterday with the boat owners in which the agreements are laid down. Various services will be present at the checkpoint, such as customs, police, military, Ministry of Transport, Communications & Tourism. It is about organizing the route.

All passengers will be registered and checked by the various disciplines, on entry. Departing passengers will also be checked. The order puts an end to the wild west situation, where the law of the fittest applied.
