The third phase of the fiberglass project in Nickerie was officially launched by President Chandrikapersad Santokhi. In order to meet the ever-increasing demand for broadband internet future plans have to be made and the existing infrastructure must be adapted.
Phase 1 and 2 were completed in 2019, from fiber optic to the houses, however the Covid-19 pandemic also affected this project and it could not be completed as planned. The president said that once again they are able to celebrate this happy fact here in Paradise. The kick-off of phase 3 would be in Nickerie, where 2065 kilometers of fiber optic cable will be laid. And on Monday it will be Moengo’s turn where 160 kilometers will be laid.
President Santokhi further indicated that the government, as a shareholder of Telesur, has approved this project for the well-being of the nation, so that services and information can function optimally.
