The inflation of September 2023 compared to September last year is 50.8%. Inflation last year was 54.6%. There is a slight decrease, but the monetary depreciation is still too high.
The General Bureau of Statistics reports that consumer prices increased by 1.5% in September compared to August this year. These are prices recorded from September 1 to September 29.
There are 316 items in Suriname’s CPI package and price recordings are carried out in Paramaribo & Wanica (at approximately 170 measuring points), Nickerie including Wageningen (115 measuring points), Coronie & Saramacca (105 measuring points),
Commewijne (120 measuring points) and in Para (120 measuring points) for a total of approximately 630 measuring points. No measurements are taken in Marowijne, Brokopondo and Sipaliwini. In the distant districts prices are much higher.
