The 4th graders of the Public School (O.S.) Pomona participated in a “vocation day” on June 15, 2023. The frosting on the cake came when they planted their greenhouse following a visit and demonstration from the police and firefighters. Employees from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock & Fisheries (LVV) oversaw the implementation of this.
“One of the Ministry of LVV’s policy objectives is to encourage young people to start businesses in agriculture. Although farming requires a lot of effort, you are your own boss and make a good living. You also support the availability of food. Soedeshchand Jairam, director of agriculture, told the pupils, “This is how you also produce and enjoy healthy food.
The students, who turned out to be no stranger to plants, have enthusiastically helped put eddoe leaf, pepper, spinach and cabbage plants in the ground today in their military or doctor’s uniform. A dilapidated greenhouse of O.S. Pomona has been revived after years. The LVV’ers will return to the school once a week for maintenance. The headmaster, Joyce Ramdin, expressed her thanks, after which the day ended with a handover of plants and flowers.
