Olivia Dominie, the district commissioner for Marowijne South-West, says that there is still much to be done, particularly in the area of infrastructure in Haa. “Everything stands or falls with good infrastructure, the roads must be passable and that is not the case right now,” claims Dominie.
Many of the roads are impassable and because of the density of the population in the slums, it is difficult to reach the area, which creates an unsafe situation. “When the police have to rush to those neighborhoods, they cannot move freely and situations take on a worse shape. Talks have been held with the Ministry of Public Works, but things are not getting off the ground,” said Dominie.
