The Rosebel Goldmines Employees’ Organization (RGWO) resumed work on Monday. The Rosebel Gold Mines leadership has promised to provide answers to the questions raised. Based on this, it was decided to get back to work.
Otmar Biswane, spokesman for the association informed the news press that the RGWO will receive the answers in writing today. The union wants assurances that employees will not lose their jobs due to the sale of Rosebel to the Chinese multinational Zijing Mining Co. Iamgold wants to divest the company, because major investments are needed.
The RGWO will hold a press conference later in the day about the situation and the concerns. The union wants to have certainties built in before Rosebel changes hands.
