Although Suriname and China have had formal diplomatic ties since May 26, 1976, Chinese immigrants began arriving in Suriname as temporary workers as early as 1853. Results have been attained in a number of areas, including education and capacity building, housing, infrastructure, agriculture, community and economic development. Diplomatic relations have grown into a strong partnership.
The “One China Policy” is a commitment made by this government, and it commits to enhancing current trade, economic, and humanitarian ties while putting a strong emphasis on the values of friendship and collaboration. The job of accomplishing the specified targets falls on the shoulders of ambassador Chong Pick Fung, who is adequately versed with Suriname’s development path and priorities.
The incoming ambassador was given best wishes by President Santokhi, who also expressed the hope that Suriname will be promoted in a respectable manner.
