On French soil, 27 National Army soldiers participate in an exercise. The French Army conducts Fer De Lance, an international military exercise, in French Guiana. Participating units come from Brazil, Guyana, and Suriname.
In order to collectively secure security, Suriname has to have strong regional partnerships. Intelligence and information are shared, but the focus is on encouraging interoperability across regional armies. According to the Ministry of Defense, interoperability is crucial when forces collaborate on humanitarian or peacekeeping missions.
An army and navy unit is part of the Surinamese delegation. There are also four observers led by Major Ajay Bagwandien who participate in the staff of the exercise. The operation started on March 7 and will last until March 21.
