Instructors from the National Army and the Navy recently held a ship boarding course. The Navy and Coast Guard sent 17 potential instructors to the Train the Trainers course.
“Boarding or boarding entails searching a vessel for illegal activity in compliance with local, state, and federal laws. According to Major Ricardo Partoredjo, Chief Instructor and Deputy Commander of the Navy, “at the conclusion of the training, participants are qualified to impart the necessary maritime knowledge and skills they have learned during the training to other personnel from both the Navy and the Coast Guard.”
The Ministry of Defense notes that the training, which included both theoretical teachings and practical exercises, fits in with the overall interdepartmental approach to cross-border crime, where the National Army is responsible for helping civil law enforcement authorities among other things.
