President Chan Santokhi leaves for Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago on Wednesday morning. He will participate in the Agri-Investment Forum & Expo II from August 19 to 21. During the Forum, the head of state will also make a statement for the office he holds as chairman of the Caricom. Minister Parmanand Sewdien of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries will also be attending to represent Suriname at the Agri-Investment Forum & Expo II.
The theme of the event is Transforming Agriculture through Innovation and Investment. The activity is the continuation of the first Agri-Investment Forum & Expo held in Guyana in May 2022 and consists of two parts. The first is a Forum in which various speakers from the Caricom share their vision on the development of the agricultural sector in the various member countries. Suriname Communications Service reports that there will be an organized fair for local and international companies to profile themselves.
The Agri-Investment Forum & Expo aims to strengthen the agricultural sector within the Caricom so that work can be done on food security within the region and less dependence on imports from outside the region. By sharing knowledge and experiences and expanding the network, countries within the Caricom can help each other to increase their own production. The countries can also identify products that they can purchase within the region.
During his stay, Santokhi will attend a special heads of state meeting on the state of affairs in Haiti. This meeting is the continuation of the one held virtually on July 15, 2022.
