On Friday in Chengdu, China, Hugh Todd, the foreign affairs minister, met with Wang Yi, the Chinese foreign minister. The two leaders agreed to improve cooperation and unity while also strengthening their bilateral ties during their encounter.
A bilateral meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Irfaan Ali took place earlier in the day. The team includes Minister Todd.
The Chinese Foreign Minister described the bilateral meeting with Todd as “fruitful,” adding it sent “a clear signal to the outside world that China and Guyana should strengthen unity and cooperation and realize common development.”
He added, “We should work together, guided by the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, to deepen cooperation in various fields and promote the sustained and in-depth development of China-Guyana relations.”
Meanwhile, Minister Todd said that over the past 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Guyana and China have always trusted and supported each other.
“The relationship between the two countries is strong and has a bright future. Guyana unswervingly abides by the one-China principle and is a reliable strategic partner of China. It is believed that China will continue to demonstrate global leadership, lead developing countries to unite, and jointly promote South-South cooperation,” the Guyanese Foreign Minister noted.
