The National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) selected Romano Builders Inc. as the winner of the $388,873,985 contract for building the courthouse following a public tender. The structure will have a courtroom, magistrates’ chambers, a clerk of court’s residence, restrooms, parking spaces, and a perimeter fence. By the end of October 2024, the project is anticipated to be finished. Staff from the Supreme Court and contractor Mr. Joey Monjal were among those in attendance at the sod-turning.
In her remarks, Magistrate Latchman thanked the Hon. Attorney General for the “groundbreaking initiative” and extended gratitude to the Government of Guyana, noting that the court will serve citizens on the East Bank of Demerara and assist with the expansion of Guyana’s jurisprudence.
