Andre Perez, Minister of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation, requested a leave of absence from the Cabinet, which Prime Minister of Belize John Briceo has approved.
An inquiry into the most recent accusations against Minister Perez will be done while he is on vacation.
If there has been any actionable wrongdoing, the Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs will inform the Prime Minister after the investigation is complete.
The Prime Minister will temporarily take over Minister Perez’s portfolio responsibilities while he is on leave.
A statement said the Cabinet is confident that Minister Perez remains committed to and will continue to serve the interests of his constituents in Belize Rural South.
In the meantime, the Cabinet respects Minister Perez’s privacy as he and his family work through this difficult situation.
